Trump to hold press conference with Musk as Tesla CEO departs government

President Trump will hold a press conference on Friday at the White House alongside Elon Musk, who is departing his role as a special government employee.

“This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way. Elon is terrific! See you tomorrow at the White House,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

The event will take place at 1:30 p.m., Trump posted.

The tech billionaire announced Wednesday that he would be leaving the government, where he led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) since January. Musk was designated a special government employee, which has a limit of 130 days of service.

Musk was a near-constant presence in Trump’s orbit during his time in government, building a close relationship with the president while chafing at some other administration officials. Musk frequently appeared with his young son, X, in the Oval Office, on Air Force One, and at Cabinet meetings.

But in his final days, Musk voiced frustration about the lack of follow-through on some of DOGE’s findings, particularly in the massive reconciliation package that was just approved by House Republicans.

“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk told CBS News’s “Sunday Morning.”
