Trump lauds Dan Patrick for Texas GOP's 'HUGE VICTORY' in redistricting battle

President Trump on Saturday reupped his support for Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R), just hours after the state legislature advanced new congressional maps that could give the GOP up to five more seats in the House during next year’s midterms.

Trump lauded Patrick as a “terrific and powerful” lieutenant governor and “incredible friend” to his “Make America Great Again” movement. The president also praised Patrick for his work to help shepherd the Lone Star State’s redistricting proposal across the finish line.

“Dan’s leadership was pivotal in the passage of the new, fair, and much improved, Congressional Map, that will give the wonderful people of Texas the tremendous opportunity to elect 5 new MAGA Republicans in the 2026 Midterm Elections — A HUGE VICTORY for our America First Agenda,” he wrote on Truth Social. “In his next Term, Dan will continue to fight tirelessly alongside of us.”

He added, “A True Friend to MAGA from the very beginning, Dan Patrick has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”

The Texas Senate passed redistricting legislation early Saturday after Democrats in the chamber were unsuccessful in delaying the vote. Democrats in the state have vowed to fight back, even as the maps head to the governor’s desk.

Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said in a social media post that he looks forward to signing the legislation.

“The One Big Beautiful Map has passed the Senate. Despite Democrats’ petty stunts, we delivered on our promise,” he wrote on social platform X following the vote. “This map reflects Texans’ actual voting preferences, and I look forward to signing it into law.”

“Drawing new congressional lines is just the tip of the iceberg,” Abbott wrote in a separate post. “The iceberg itself, which will change elections across America, is the fact that crazy leftist policies by Democrats are causing more Americans to flee Democrats and vote Republican.”

The state House advanced the bill on Wednesday — after Democrats who fled the state to delay the vote returned — sending it back to the upper chamber.

Trump celebrated the movement as a “big win” ahead of the 2026 midterms, adding that Texas “never lets us down.”

The mid-decade redrawing of lines has flooded national headlines, triggering multiple states to eye their own redistricting efforts, including California, Illinois, New York, Indiana and Missouri. Golden State Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) earlier this week signed bills that could counteract the additional seats Republicans stand to gain with the new Texas maps.

Patrick defended GOP redistricting efforts in an early August interview, saying Republicans “deserve” more seats in Congress because the Lone Star State is a red state. He also criticized the Democrats who fled the state to delay votes.

“I challenge them: Come back and do the right thing. Don’t run and hide because you’ve lost touch with the voters,” he told Fox News’s Sean Hannity earlier this month.

“Their problem are not redistricting lines,” he added. “Their problem, Sean, is they’ve lost the minds of their voters, who are moving toward the Republican Party all over the country.”
