Attention breakfast fans: Williamsburg, Virginia, is hosting an event just for you.
In August, the town announced that it’s hosting its first-ever Pancake Festival in partnership with CultureFix, a local arts organization, on Sept. 26 and 27, 2025. And it’s fitting when you realize that the city has earned the title of the “Pancake Capital of the World” thanks to the fact that it’s home to more pancake house restaurants than any other place on the map.
“We’ve embraced our identity as the Pancake Capital of the World, and now we’re serving up a festival that reflects the warmth, creativity, and community spirit Williamsburg is known for,” Edward Harris, the CEO of Visit Williamsburg, said in a statement obtained by Travel + Leisure. “Our hope is that this becomes an annual tradition that not only brings residents together but also draws visitors from near and far to experience all the charm our destination has to offer.”
The team said that this two-day event will come packed with “delicious food, lively entertainment, and family-friendly fun that brings the community and visitors together.” It all kicks off on Friday with National Pancake Day, with an evening of pancakes (because who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner?) and live entertainment at the Hellenic Center. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite PJs to the event, which runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will also be a “Pancake Lab” sponsored by Capitol Pancake House, a kids’ zone for the younger set to decorate their own pancakes, and face painting.
On Saturday from 10:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m., the pancake party will move to Duke of Gloucester Street in Merchant’s Square during the Farmers Market, with more family-friendly activities including the Sausage Sprint, a dachshund dog race, a pancake-themed children’s book reading, and the must-see World Pancake Eating Championship, where professional eaters like Miki Sudo and Nick Wehry will compete by eating pancakes.
There is, however, one more exciting thing happening alongside the festival. This September, Visit Williamsburg and the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce will launch the Pancake Trail to help locals and visitors alike explore Williamsburg’s best breakfast spots. Those looking to hit the trail can download the associated app and check in at participating pancake restaurants, including Shorty’s Diner in Yorktown, Astronomical Pancake House, and Southern Pancake Waffle House, to earn points that can go toward a T-shirt and a ticket to the festival events on Friday evening.
Tickets for the events on Friday evening start at $20 for adults and $15 for teenagers. Children and college students can enter for free, along with those who have explored the Pancake Trail. Snag your tickets here, and maybe pack your favorite syrup in your purse just in case.
