In a country famous for grass-fed beef, Buenos Aires‘ Fogón Asado has built an international reputation for its grill-centered cooking. And now, it has been recognized as the best fine dining restaurant in the world by Tripadvisor.
Celebrating the best Argentinian ingredients and the traditional ritual of slow-cooking meats over an open fire, Fogón Asado offers multi-course tasting menus at a bar surrounding the grill. Dinners are paired with sips from Argentina’s oldest wineries.
In naming it as the top fine dining restaurant as part of its annual Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Restaurants, Tripadvisor lauded Fogón Asado for showcasing the “rich tradition of asado steak with a twist” that “goes well beyond regular steakhouse fare.”
“Tripadvisor’s Best of the Best Restaurants are celebrated for their extraordinary cuisine, attentive service, and remarkable locations, where most importantly, diners go to make special memories,” Kristen Dalton, the president of Tripadvisor, said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure. “From hidden local gems to one-of-a-kind destinations, Tripadvisor’s community guides travelers to restaurants that become cherished favorites or once-in-a-lifetime experiences, all backed by trusted reviews.”
At Fogón Asado, diners are treated to two options: a nine-course tasting menu or an extensive fourteen-course chef’s counter, which is available for up to 12 guests each night.
The menu changes frequently but stays true to its fire-forward spirit. Start with ember-roasted eggplant with ricotta cheese and fresh herbs or “ironed” cheese complimented by grilled fruit. Guests are then treated to a smoky feast featuring plenty of barbecued meats like pork flank steak, pine cone smoked flat iron, and ribeye.
In addition to Fogón Asado, Tripadvisor recognized several other destination restaurants based on feedback from its own users. Palma de Mallorca’s Izakaya High Japanese Cuisine came in second on the list, praised for its “sophisticated dining experience… With an emphasis on traditional Japanese food.”
That was followed by The Witchery in Edinburgh; Abrasado in Mendoza, Argentina; and Restaurante Marius Degustare in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (which happens to be T+L’s Destination of the Year for 2026).
The top-rated restaurant in the United States was Revival in Charleston, which came in seventh on the list overall. Known for its modern take on South Carolina’s culinary past, the restaurant focuses on elevated lowcountry and southern cuisine with dishes like red cornmeal fried oysters, lobster arancini, and lowcountry pirlou with butter-poached lobster, crab, shrimp, mussels, saffron, and more.
