- A new study analyzed over 1,300 global cities to rank the best digital nomad destinations for 2025 based on factors such as cost, safety, and livability.
- Weligama, Sri Lanka, took the top spot for affordability, and solo nomads can live here for around $650 per month.
- Bangkok, Thailand, ranked No. 1 overall for its livability, infrastructure, and coworking scene.
By 2030, 25 percent of the global workforce will be fully digital, meaning one in four jobs can soon be done from anywhere on earth, the World Economic Forum recently reported. And if you can work from anywhere, why not choose a location that’s both spectacular and affordable?
In May, Hotel With Tub, a website that helps travelers find the best hotels with the most serene tubs, revealed the findings of its study on the top 100 digital nomad destinations around the globe for 2025.
To find the best places for remote workers, the team analyzed data it collected from more than 1,300 cities around the globe, and considered factors such as cost of living, safety, and livability via local government sources and public tourism statistics. It also included data on “how often people return, and how much buzz it’s getting online.” It also pulled data from social media and data from nomads.com, a site that helps digital nomads find the best places to work remotely.
After combing through the numbers, it named Weligama, Sri Lanka, the most affordable destination for digital nomads in the world.
“Weligama ranks 43rd overall with a final score of 70—remarkably high for a small coastal town. Nomads rate it 2.89 out of 5, reflecting its growing appeal,” the team explained in the findings. “It’s the most budget-friendly destination on the entire list. Solo nomads spend just $624 per month, while family costs are $1,905 per month, making it ideal for stretching your savings.”
The small coastal enclave also achieved a “good” safety rating, and while it noted that the community’s infrastructure is still developing, the team noted that “the town’s peaceful rhythm and growing coworking scene support a slow, intentional lifestyle.”
It’s also a fantastic place for those who want to surf as well, thanks to its long, sandy beach that has consistent, easy waves in clear, blue waters. Though you’d better hurry if you want to get there before everyone else, as it’s certainly a place on the rise, with the study noting it’s “gaining digital visibility with 3.4 million Instagram hashtags showcasing its laid-back charm.”
Other affordable spots to make the list include Denpasar, Bali, at No. 2, followed by Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Sanur, Bali; and Hanoi, Vietnam, rounding out the top five.
As for the overall winner, the website named Bangkok, Thailand, as the No. 1 pick for digital nomads in 2025.
“It received a final weighted score of 91 out of 100—the highest on our list—backed by glowing feedback from nomads who rate it an impressive 4.55 out of 5,” the team shared. “Life here is not just affordable, it’s genuinely enjoyable. A solo nomad can live well for around $1,537 per month, while families can manage comfortably under $2,900. This affordability doesn’t come with compromise: Bangkok’s infrastructure is reliable, the public transport system is efficient, and coworking spaces—from sleek downtown towers to garden cafés—are plentiful.”
