When it comes to finding comfortable travel shoes, there are certain people we can always rely on for strong sneaker recommendations: nurses, teachers, and marathoners. In addition to their solid taste in quality footwear, these groups share something else in common: they wear Hokas—and if they say the Hoka Mach 6s get them through 12-hour shifts and 26-mile runs without pain and blisters, then they must be worthy of a trip to Disney World or your next big walking vacation.
Right now, Zappos is running a rare sale on this highly rated style from the brand, which has earned several stamps of approval from podiatrists for promoting good foot health. You can snag the “cloudlike” sneakers in one of five colors marked up to 35 percent off.

The Mach 6 sneaker is the sixth generation of Hoka’s Mach road-running shoe, best known for being light and versatile. It features a thinner layer of cushion than some other Hoka styles, but lots of people appreciate the lower profile, designed to keep feet closer to the ground and take up less room in your suitcase. And what it lacks in that Hoka-centric oversized sole, it gains in responsiveness through specialized “super critical foam,” per the brand. The midsole adds extra pep to your step by giving you a higher energy return.
A Travel + Leisure writer called an earlier version of the shoe (the Mach 5) the most comfortable sneaker they’d tried in years—and that was after walking 27,000 steps in them straight out of the box. Testers say the sixth generation has a firmer underfoot feeling and less marshmallowy squish compared to its predecessor, but many prefer the updated version. “The Mach 5 was brilliant, but the entire sole was soft midsole, which wore away far too quickly,” one Zappos reviewer wrote. The brand fixed that problem with enhanced rubber coverage in the outsole, improving the shoe’s durability overall.

Besides the rebounding EVA midsole people love, the sneakers have a low-top textile upper that keeps them breathable, removable elastic footbeds, and a gusseted tongue that seals the opening of the shoe against water and debris. A nurse said they particularly like the latter feature—it keeps the tongue in place and alleviates soreness on the tops of their feet, they wrote. A runner of 40 years said, “This is the best shoe I [have] ever had in my long career of running.”
Of course, another benefit of Hoka shoes is the fun color combinations. In addition to the neutral white, black, and gray styles currently on sale, you can also find the rainbow Starlight Glow and sky-blue Cloudless colorways for 20 percent off. Prices start at $91, almost $50 off the original $140 price.Â
