One of the most historic train networks in the world has a brand new route. The famed Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will begin its first-ever service from Paris to Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
Known for its opulent accommodations, five-star service, and award-winning culinary team, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express combines timeless hospitality with modern-day engineering, as the 1920s-built train cars have been meticulously preserved as a hallmark of the “golden age” of travel.
In addition to the luxury train journey and accommodations on the Amalfi Coast, passengers will also experience a five-star hotel experience with a two-night stay at Caruso, A Belmond Hotel, Amalfi Coast after the train portion of the itinerary concludes.
The new route debuts on May 4, 2026, departing from Paris for an overnight trip to Pompeii, Italy. From there, travelers will have the opportunity to explore the historic site, before taking a special boat ride to the Positano-based Caruso hotel. Both the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and Caruso are members of the Belmond brand, which is owned by LVMH.
The new Paris-to-Amalfi Coast route is now open for reservations and costs £8,600 (approximately $11,479) per person, which includes all meals, transfers, and excursions.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Amalfi Coast to our Italian routes, continuing to connect our legendary train with our Belmond hotels,” Pascal Deyrolle, the general manager of Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, shared in a statement to Travel + Leisure. “This journey offers guests a unique way to experience one of Italy’s most celebrated coastlines—with its cliffs, villages, and sea views revealed in a way that only the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express can provide”.
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express currently operates service throughout Europe, including a three-night Paris to Portofino journey, a one-night Paris to Budapest, a one-night Geneva to Venice, and more. The train was recognized as one of the best trains in the world in T+L’s 2025 World’s Best Awards, securing the No. 4 spot.
The prices for tickets on the other routes range from £3,530 ($4,710) per passenger to over £63,000 ($84,066) per adult, based on the trip and type of cabin, according to the booking website.
Reservations for all journeys can be made at belmond.com.
