Delta Just Announced Its First-ever Nonstop Flight to One of Europe’s Wine Capitals

The summer travel season may be coming to a close, but Delta Air Lines is helping travelers get ahead with all-new dreamy destinations for next summer.

Starting May 21, 2026, the carrier will launch a new flight to Porto, Portugal, from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), flying to the coastal city for the first time. The flight will be operated on a Boeing 767-300 aircraft, and feature the airline’s Delta One business class and Delta Premium Select premium economy in addition to Delta Main (or economy).

The new route will compliment Delta’s current service to Lisbon, which it flies to from both Boston and New York. The announcement comes on the heels of the airline’s decision to launch service to both Sardinia, Italy, and Malta in 2026.

“Delta’s new nonstop service from JFK to Porto is part of seven new European routes launching next summer, giving customers even more opportunities to experience Europe and enjoy our award-winning service and premium onboard experience,” Paul Baldoni, Delta’s senior vice president of network planning, said in a statement, adding “these additions expand choice for our customers and reinforce JFK’s role as a leading global gateway.”

Located along the coast of northwestern Portugal, Porto is known for its historic culture and architecture, nature and hiking, and many art museums. The city is also a member of the Great Wine Capitals network thanks to its numerous vineyards and significant wine production.

Visitors enjoy touring the city’s royal palaces and observation decks with sweeping views, and sampling culinary delights, as profiled in a recent Travel + Leisure video series.

“As one of Portugal’s favorite northern cities, Porto is brimming with history, culture, and is home to arguably one of the greatest sandwiches on earth,” T+L writer Stacey Leasca shared in the video.

The city and the surrounding area is also home to more than 80 different hiking trails with outdoor enthusiasts lauding its numerous riverside trails, hikes to historic sites, and more, according to reviews on AllTrails.

Beyond these new flights, Delta is expanding its presence across Europe. In May 2026, the carrier will add new nonstop flights from Boston to both Madrid and Nice, expand service to both Barcelona and Milan, and introduce new flights from Seattle to both Barcelona and Rome.

The expansion plans come as Delta has also partnered with private aviation company Wheels Up to allow passengers who are flying Delta One into several European cities the option of boarding a private flight to reach their final destination after their commercial flight.
