American Airlines Is Launching Direct Flights to One of the Bahamas’ Smallest Islands—and It’s Got Crystal Waters

Visiting one of the smallest islands in the Bahamas is about to get easier.

American Airlines will launch new flights to the island of Bimini next year, connecting the charming destination just 50 miles off the eastern coast of Florida with Miami, according to the carrier. The new flights will take off on Feb. 14, 2026, and operate three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays on an Embraer 175 aircraft.

“American knows that travelers are looking for unique and varied experiences, and that’s why we’ve added destinations like Bimini to our network,” Brian Znotins, American’s senior vice president of network planning, said in a statement.

The flight will be operated under American Airlines‘ American Eagle brand, and will feature both premium and main class seating in the cabin complete with onboard Wi-Fi. One-way flights in February 2026 start at $269, according to a search on American’s website by Travel + Leisure.

The flights are scheduled to depart Miami at 10:05 a.m. and arrive in Bimini an hour later at 11:05 a.m. Return flights are scheduled to leave Bimini at 11:50 a.m. and arrive back in Miami at 12:50 p.m.

Known for its white sand beaches, clear water, and outdoor activities, Bimini is a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts as well as leisure travelers. It is comprised of two islands: North Bimini and South Bimini, and boasts the chance to swim with wild dolphins, explore the mysterious underwater rock formation known as Bimini Road, and even dive with sharks. The island is also where Ernest Hemingway spent two years before writing his famous novel “The Old Man and the Sea” and where Martin Luther King Jr. wrote parts of his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, according to the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

Small, but mighty, there are plenty of amazing places to stay on the island like the all-inclusive Resorts World Bimini, a 750-acre beachfront resort featuring 305 rooms, two pools, 10 restaurants, cafes, and bars, and a 10,000-square-foot casino. The island is also home to the Bimini Cove Resort and Marina, which boasts 2- and 3-bedroom condos, as well as other short-term rental properties on Airbnb and Vrbo.

Beyond Bimini, American flies to six other destinations in the Bahamas, operating more than 30 peak daily flights to the Caribbean island chain. And from Miami International Airport (MIA), the carrier operates more than 430 peak daily departures to destinations all around the world.
