“The Senator does not like the government imposing itself into the marketplace and artificially reducing the demand, the number of buyers, and the price homeowners can obtain when they sell their homes,” the spokesperson said.

Rand Paul

Paul’s office also did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his nay vote.

The Kentucky Senator, too, was among those who voted against the Senate version of the bill in March, and made comments about his opposition to the legislation at the time.

In a March post on X, Paul called the bill the “Path Toward the Destruction of Property Rights Act,” and expressed his opposition to the limits it would put on institutional investors—at length.

Among other criticisms of the restrictions, he wrote that “Since there are two sides to every transaction, the provision also acts as a prohibition on property owners from selling their property to the highest bidder“ and “Since many of the houses owned by institutional investors are rented, banning this class of investors may decrease the number of rental houses thus raising rents.”
