Michelin Guide Expands to Philly and Boston for 2025—See the Full List of Starred Restaurants

The stars were out in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. The 2025 Michelin Guide Northeast Cities ceremony took over the city’s Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts to unveil this year’s restaurant selection for New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and, for the first time, Boston and Philadelphia.

The biggest news of the night came out of New York, where Sushi Sho, run by chef Keiji Nakazawa, was the only restaurant elevated to three Michelin stars. Fellow New York restaurant Joo Ok and Chicago’s Kasama each jumped from one to two stars. Chicago’s Feld joined the ranks with its first Michelin star, and picked up a Green Star in the process. New York City also welcomed four new one-star restaurants: Bridges, Muku, Huso, and Yamada.

For Philadelphia and Boston, the ceremony marked an official welcome to the Michelin guide. In Boston, intimate sushi counter 311 Omakase earned one star for its seasonally driven omakase, and six restaurants in and around the city earned a Bib Gourmand designation.

In Philadelphia, which is recognized in Travel + Leisure‘s 2026 Where to Go list, three restaurants landed one star: Friday Saturday Sunday, Her Place Supper Club, and Provenance. Pietramala, an entirely vegan restaurant that builds its menu around organic produce and creative fermentation, was recognized with a Green Star. The city also picked up a slate of new Bib Gourmands, including three standout cheesesteak spots.

Altogether, the 2025 Northeast Cities selection includes 664 restaurants representing 64 different cuisines. Diners will find six three-star restaurants, 22 two-star restaurants, and 93 one-star spots, plus nine Green Star honorees, 166 Bib Gourmands, and 377 additional recommended restaurants across the five cities and their surrounding areas.

“This year marks a momentous occasion for the Northeast Cities to come together and celebrate the exceptional talent across the restaurant communities in these five cities,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, noting that the anonymous inspectors “were able to witness and taste the passion these industry professionals brought to the table.”

In addition to the star announcements and Bib Gourmand list—which highlights restaurants serving excellent food at more modest prices—Michelin handed out five special awards. Chompon “Boong” Boonnak of Mahaniyom in Brookline received the Michelin Exceptional Cocktails Award; Lei co-owner Annie Shi took home the Sommelier Award for her work at the buzzy New York restaurant; and Amy Cordell of Chicago fine-dining spot Ever was honored with the Outstanding Service Award. The Young Chef/Culinary Professional Award went to India Doris of New York’s Markette, and José Andrés received the Mentor Chef Award for his work at minibar in Washington, D.C., and his influence on chefs around the world.

More than a century after the first red guide was published in France in 1900 to help early car drivers find reliable meals and places to stay, Michelin’s stars still carry serious weight. Today, one star signals “high quality cooking, worth a stop,” two stars denote “excellent cooking, worth a detour,” and the rare three stars are reserved for “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.” Green Stars spotlight restaurants leading the way in sustainable gastronomy, while Bib Gourmands and recommended picks round out the picture at a wider range of price points.

For Philadelphia and Boston, joining that ecosystem is a recognition of what locals have known for years—their cities are eating and drinking at the highest level. For travelers, it’s one more reason to plan a trip.
