6 Best Quince Capsule Wardrobe Work Clothes Picks

As a long-time freelance journalist and travel writer, I don’t have a traditional office wardrobe—like, at all. On most days, you’ll catch me working at home in my pajamas, or on the road in an airport outfit. But it’s been years since my closet was actually prepared for a conventional work environment.

And that’s why, when I was preparing to travel last month for a luxury travel media conference, I felt like it was a good time to score a whole new work-appropriate capsule wardrobe. It would have to be versatile (so I could travel light), affordable (so I didn’t break the bank), and effortlessly stylish (so I didn’t feel like a work-at-home hermit playing dress-up as a professional adult). So right off the bat, I knew I’d turn to Quince, which has been my longtime source of high-quality and attractive staples at a down-to-earth price point. Here are a few of the pieces I pulled together for my trip—which have since continued to travel with me and serve me well for a range of occasions at home and on the road.

This super-versatile sweater-shirt is incredibly luxurious for the price point, and looks polished without any fuss. It was comfortable from daytime into evening; this was a tall order, given my event destination was hot outside and freezing inside the air-conditioned convention center. It’s made from sustainably-sourced Mongolian cashmere, and has an impressive 7,500-plus five-star reviews. It’s lightweight, travels like a dream, and is a no-brainer for all seasons.

Quince Silk Washable Skirt

I bought this midi skirt in a deep blue that coordinates with the cashmere tee in the same color for a tone-on-tone look— but it’s so versatile that it works with a wide range of tops. It’s got a flattering bias cut, and it’s super easy to wear with a hidden elastic waistband. The silk looks dressed up, but it’s machine washable, and I have tossed it in the washing machine (on cold) with great results. It does wrinkle a little in my suitcase, but it smoothed out like a dream after I hung it in the bathroom while I showered. Since I bought it, I have worn it in both a professional setting, as well as to my nephew’s bar mitzvah; it’s so versatile and comfortable.

I basically never leave the house without my laptop—and that’s certainly true when I’m traveling for work. So I was looking for a tote that was large and protective enough to carry my computer around for the day, along with extra pockets for essentials like a water bottle or extra layer. I also like that the gold-tone hardware matches my preferred jewelry choice—and looks fancier, too.

Quince Italian Leather Twise Mid-heel Mule

I’m obsessed with these shoes. With soft leather and a chunky mid heel, they’re ridiculously comfortable if you’re, say, walking many thousands of steps around a convention center, followed by a networking cocktail hour at a separate location. The cushioning is unreal, and the fit is perfection (true to size—9 for me). But the look is super elevated and can be dressed up as  work attire or just generally cute going-out shoes.

Three years ago, I lost my leather jacket on a work trip in London when it disappeared from my airport ride. I’ve been searching for a proper replacement since then—and this is it. With real leather fabrication and quality construction, this oversized biker jacket looks poised enough to go with all my work gear, but also playful enough that I felt like myself in it. And it will go with literally everything else in my closet this fall and winter, whether I’m traveling for work or play.
